OK folks strap in and hang on, it's that time of year again. As your read this, our Kansas City show is either a couple days away, or if you are slow to pick up your issue, it might be underway. Our inaugural show in Tulsa, Oklahoma is only a couple of weeks away followed by our St. Louis Show in February.
We can hardly sit still. Our Kansas City show was basically full of exhibitors and vendors well before Thanksgiving, and the other two shows are right on the K.C. show’s heels. You would think we would get used to the way the people of the Midwest Coast support us, but you amaze us yearly by making each show a bigger success than the previous year’s. While Kansas City and St. Louis have been hits since their beginning we held a tiny bit of trepidation regarding our all new Tulsa show. The area had not had a show in years, and folks said we couldn’t pull one off if we tried. Couple these items with the fact that we have a venue even larger than Kansas City to fill, a little concern seemed normal. Well, it might have been normal, but it was unfounded. We expect the Tulsa show to be a resounding success and one hell of a good time. It seems the Tulsa folks know the real deal when they see it.
As you probably remember from my October article, we have a little something for you folks at each of our shows that has had people buzzing since we first let the cat out of the bag a few months back. That’s right. A brand new Harley-Davidson Superglide Custom will be leaving each show with one lucky family courtesy of our great partners Gail’s Harley-Davidson in Kansas City, St. Charles Harley-Davidson in St. Louis, and one of the newest additions to the Wide Open family, Myers-Duren Harley-Davidson in Tulsa. Now I know you have to be diggin on the thought of a brand new, no purchase necessary, Big Twin scoot going home from a show with you. Well, your chance is as good as anybody’s because somebody has to win it. We are also excited to announce Progressive Insurance as a new member of the Wide Open family this year.
Like I have said before and will repeat again, you read family in the above paragraph. As always, our shows are a family-friendly event, and as always, kids under 12 get in free. There is no need for anyone in the family to miss out on our shows when you can bring the youngins with you. Somebody has got to be in charge of cultivating the next crop of riders.
All the things you have loved about our shows in the past are still on the agenda as well. Wide Open is going to pony up with over $75,000 in bikes, cash, gas cards and Sturgis trips available to show-goers. 101 the Fox Morning Personality Slacker will once again be the conductor of the Wide Open Express, spinning the tunes, keeping you informed as to what’s up and coming as the show’s day progresses, and handing out free gas cards as usual. Everybody likes free gas! We will have plenty of vendor and sponsor-supplied giveaway items for you as well. And NO, we didn’t forget, Sturgis trips will be up for grabs as well.
The first of its kind indoor dice run first unveiled in St. Louis last year will now be a part of our Kansas City show as well. This little bit of fun benefits show-goers with a little extra folding money every two hours and it also benefits the very worthy March of Dimes. Kansas City show goers will be treated to the same excitement the St. Louis folks experienced last year. Tulsa will get the chance to play guinea pig this year with a debut attraction of their own. Could we interest you in an indoor swap meet? I knew we could!
Once again we will feature our kick-ass registration process from last year. For the new exhibitors it goes something like this. Upon arrival at the show, bike or car entrants will have professional, studio quality shots of their entry taken. These shots will be displayed on a huge 8’ x 12’ screen continually throughout the show.
Once award time comes around when a winner’s name is called, their machine will once again be displayed on the screen so everyone knows what and who took home the trophies. Last year’s winners loved this bit of well-deserved recognition. That very same screen will, from time to time, display shots from a roving video camera that will be broadcasting everything it sees. My advice, don’t eat broccoli before the show; the camera sees all. Another new change this year will see awards cranked out by our buddy Brad Brooks, owner of Consultechs, on his high tech water jet.
On top of all the shared features and events, each show will have its own distinct flavor as well. Kansas City will feature bikes and rods, custom and rat. St. Louis will be all bikes with wall-to-wall leather and chrome. Tulsa will have bike, rods, and more toy-haulers than you can shake a stick at.
Ok folks, one more time. We have free bikes, free gas cards, free trips, free cash, free swag, and free admission for the under-12 crowd. Watch for our numerous billboards; listen to our ads on the radio with 98.9 The Rock in Kansas City, 97.5 KMOD in Tulsa, and 96.3 K Hits in St. Louis.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
p.s. You military folks thought I forgot you, didn’t you? Wide Open Motorcycle Magazine wants to say thank you by offering free admission to any of our shows to any current Armed Forces member that shows up in uniform. We want you in uniform so folks can give you the thanks you so richly deserve. |
